Stick-shift for dummies Saturday, October 27, 2012 @ 3:50 AM
I just feel obliged to say this . . . I finally know the basics of operating a manual transmission car! After 21 years, nakapag-paandar na ako ng kotse! Well it's my first time to drive and it feels So then we cannot think of any other place to drive, so we just went home. Lame, I know. So fast-forward to awhile ago (about 5:30 PM), I was bored beyond my limit. I went downstairs, opened the fridge to see if it can somehow take away a bit of boredom (oh what cliche) and there's nothing there but a stale slice of bread, vegetables, and milk (yeah, my mother somehow likes taking control of what goes inside the fridge). So I bugged my papa who was playing guitar that time, asking him to teach me how to drive. For a second there, I thought I was insane because my father is just the most reckless and disputable driver in the world. But what the heck. So then we went to congressional extension, THE FRIGGIN ROAD where all these more reckless drivers like to troll around. And I was scared beyond my wits because I have not ever taken formal lessons from a driving school (personal choice) and I haven't even started a car, and there he is pitching me along with other drivers. I had to bicker of course and protest I just learn around our So he stopped at some corner (reminder: noob here) and we switched seats. I was like "holy crap" because I didn't have any sort of background in driving AT ALL. I didn't even know what the mechanisms inside a car were called. But my dad, being the way he is, was very calm and subdued and told me "step on the clutch, primera, release clutch, slowly accelerate" and from there I was able to move the car with common sense. It was pretty rough but my learning how to drive from again, the most reckless and disputable driver in the world took away some of my driving anxieties. He was very patient with me to the point that I was already shifting gears without even knowing it (which in my case is quite tedious to manage). My dad really does everything in a somehow 90° way of teaching. He didn't teach me anything prior to driving but I learn during the actual course of driving. I'm nervous for my u-turn lessons though in a road full of intersections. I guess I have a lot more to learn. |
