I just came home from my first day of school after a long semestral break. In my anticipation of being alone again during my long breaks, I decided not to read my recent graphic novel purchase at home and to read it in school instead. I hate it that we get to go to school for our first subject meetings but we only get to consume about 30 minutes from each period. So for my 5-hour class, I get to have a 4-hour break during the first day.
It was a pretty wise move for me to bring along another time killer that actually ended up being one of my favorite books of all time. I still do want to re-read it again over the summer as there were still things I have yet to comprehend with my tiny brain.
The books is beautifully crafted and pretty much a tough read if you're not a used to reading comic books continuously without twitching an eye. For one, the author didn't make the reading pattern that easy to the point that some panels even have arrows to guide you on where you should read next. For another, this book is not an ordinary superhero plot. The lead here is mainly a person as stubborn as you can imagine yet no matter how annoying that may already seem, it is awfully painful to get along and continue reading without shedding a tear. Well, at least that was the case for me.
I wouldn't want to spoil everything here as you can find loads of synopsis and reviews online. There's maybe just one thing that made me attached to the book so much - I don't have a lost father or sister, but I am a Jimmy Corrigan in my own conscious self.
If you have spare money and can't decide on what to use it for, please get a copy of this book. and may I suggest to get the hardback copy as the trade paperback is a bit fragile for non-obsessive compulsive readers.
