I was on the verge of breaking down after seeing this blog post. They have gone too far, properly. Their passion for music (also my kind of music, that is) soared to this height that if I were in their position, I would be feeling just as exuberant as they are right now - and all these made me look at myself to see where I stand...
I remember that night way back in 2007 when I was invited by an Atenean to his prom. It was the first time I have ever heard a band that deviates themselves from the common conception of how an OPM band is - all that heavy bass, loud drums, messy hairstyle, (almost close to) screaming vocals, and can be found everywhere in the media.
Their name goes by k24/7 (which is the shorter version of kindred 24/7). They're an all-male Filipino Rnb band that has been quite a hit in late night gigs. They cover classic Rnb artists such as Boyz II Men, Voices of Theory, and many more. They recently won People's Choice at tWave 89.1's Urban Music Awards.
Surely their band is not yet quite familiar with almost all the masses, but that's what makes them more interesting because in the Filipino music business, it is quite ironic to be such good musicians yet remain more on the underground. But I salute them for not yet going mainstream, after all the years. They are one of the best and original band in terms of style and I highly recommend them for all those who love Rnb as much as I do.
Being a struggling musician that I am, seeing successful musicians I closely connect with because of genre and wanting to remain on the undergournd, makes me piti myself. I have wanted to be a one-man band, an electronic musician, a music producer. I have all these wonderful visions for my music yet I make my own worst promoter.
I am doubtful at how people would react to my music. I am embarrassed of letting my friends or family hear my music for fear of rejection. With all the music I have created, none of them seemed to be "good enough" because this thinking that I lack place, gear-knowledge, and experience with music, eats me up.
...Now, All I depend on is crossing my fingers in everything that I do...
